MG (short for Morris Garages) is a historic British car brand founded in 1924, known for producing sporty and racing vehicles. Originally based on modified Morris chassis, the company grew rapidly, eventually establishing its own identity and plant in Abingdon, where it operated until 1980. Over the decades, MG changed hands several times, becoming part of Morris Motors, then the British Motor Corporation, and later British Leyland. After the closure of the Abingdon plant and a period of dormancy, MG was revived by BMW in 1995, passed to the MG Rover Group in 2000, and finally acquired by China’s Nanjing Automobile Group.
